Here is a small glimpse of the soundscapes I recorded during a trip in Cuba in January 2023.
We visited three different regions that were all very different sonically. Varadero, la Havana and Viñales. Hear how each region has its own sonic identity below.
In Varadero, one distinct element was the presence of horse-drawn carriages going around in the streets. Mixed with the vehicles, it gives a pretty unique blend between organic and mechanical textures.
In la Havana, a strong human activity presence coupled with almost constant street music creates a lively atmosphere.
Lastly, in Viñales, the sounds of roosters would wake us up every morning. There was a lot of variety of animals in this picturesque village and the complaining pig screams definitely gives this soundscape a unique character.
All of the recordings have been made with my Sony PCM-M10 and Sound Professionals MS-TFB-2-11846 binaural stereo microphones.
